We are pretty strict around our house about "screen time" (time in front of a computer or T.V. or video game). Of course with our girls ages of 3 and 5 this is fairly easy to limit right now! I was super excited to a product called GeoPalz that encourages kids to be active!! It connects/rewards kids with on-line features and prizes!! GeoPalz activity tracker is the first fitness tracker/pedometer that is designed with kids in mind. Kids can win prizes just by walking while wearing the GeoPalz activity tracker. You simply register your GeoPalz activity tracker as instructed, then have the children wear it throughout the day while walking & playing, then at the end of the day, enter the accumulated steps online to earn "pedpoints" then reset the activity tracker and start again the next day (really you can log it in at any point in the day, just reset after). Build up "pedpoints" to earn different prizes (parents will only need to pay shipping & handling on the prizes). 1 "pedpoint" is earned for every 2500 steps (approximately 1 mile). You can also use a pedometer that you already have to earn pedpoints--you just need to pay a small fee and register.
I love that these GeoPalz come in a very wide variety of styles to fit a wide variety of ages and personalities!! I like that points are entered on the honor system (teaching your child to tell the truth at all times)also there are a couple checks in place to make sure the children are correctly entering in their steps, plus you don't have to worry about losing the USB cable or other connection! I found the GeoPalz activity tracker had a fairly accurate step count.
